I moved. Like, really far away. I was living in Phoenix, AZ working for Westwood One as an entertainment news writer and doing weekends on the air for 98.7 The Peak. I’d lived in Phoenix for a decade; it was time to go. So in November of 2010, I picked up and moved to…drumroll please…Hutchinson, KS, a town of 40,000. I figured it was a good central location in the very middle of America and plus — I had a place to stay there. So I made it my “job search central” and began looking for a job doing my very favorite thing, MORNING RADIO!

And then, in January of 2011, I got a job! I started working at KDGS, or Power 93.9, in Wichita, KS. So I’m a Kansas girl now, sunflowers in my hair…

I blog now on the Power 93.9 website. You can read it here. I do mornings from 6-10 am M-F as “The Hitman and Heather in the Morning.” Obviously I’m Heather. Saturdays, I’m either on the air on Power or hitting the streets for Power.

I’m also freelance writing for HalogenTV.com. For more on my freelance writing adventures, I suggest you check out my Media Bistro profile. I also have a pretty kickin’ website here.

I recently started to get tired of Facebook and got spooked last month when 6 million Americans decided to shut down their profiles. I noticed people had stopped posting less frequently and the amount of interesting posts also seemed to be on the decline. Facebook used to be “the place to be.” But that was…3 years ago? Yeah, time to move on.

So now I’m addicted to Tumblr. I’ve got a few Tumblrs now…

But I also like to seek out more authentic experiences. Something more organic that doesn’t require looking at a screen in order to be stimulating. Things like yoga, guitar, cooking, firing up the juicer and creating something in the kitchen, going for a walk… I spend a lot of time for Power social networking, blogging, making videos, and watching stuff either on TV or online that we can talk about on air. That’s a lot of screen time. Hitting the “off” button on that is nice.

So that’s why this blog has been neglected for months. A friend alerted me to the fact that I hadn’t changed my blog roll since I worked at the Peak, so I had to update that.

Now I don’t know what to do with this blog. The kind of stuff I blogged about on here before is the type of stuff I talk about now on my Power blog. My station gets the win and trust me, I probably reach more people blogging on the station website than here. It’s nice to have thousands of watts of power and a built-in radio audience to share with.

So for now, this is just an update to this blog. I have too many URLs in my life and it’s hard to point to just ONE central site that is up-to-date about absolutely EVERYTHING I am doing. But this blog is called “Everything Heather.” So maybe this could be that place? Or maybe Twitter @Heatherlarson. Or the main website listed above, or the Media Bistro profile… See? It never ends!

Where the hell have I been, you ask? In the last month, I’ve packed up, left Phoenix and made a temporary home in the middle of Kansas. More to come in 2011. Can’t wait.

Halogen

For now, I’ve been freelancing for HalogenTV.com more than I’ve been writing my own blog. It’s the website for the cable channel about social good. It’s great to be writing about people who are “being the change” after spending much of the last year writing pop music stories about Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, Miley Cyrus, and Lindsay Lohan. (Hey, I’m not complaining. It was my former job as an entertainment news writer for Westwood One).

Give the Gift of Voice!

The HollyRod Foundation is giving the gift of voice this holiday season. They always do important work there for kids with autism and their families. I am just fascinated by iPad apps than can help these kids! Check it out.

Jimmy Wayne’s Meet Me Halfway

This has been my favorite story of the year. Country singer Jimmy Wayne walked across the U.S. from Nashville to Phoenix to raise awareness of youth “aging out” of the foster care system. Why can’t every kid have a home? Why turn a foster kid out on his/her own at age 18 with little or no resources so he/she is forced to hit the streets? Why do we allow children to become sad statistics? I don’t know why. But Jimmy is working to change it! Can’t wait to see what he does in 2011….

Cheers to a new year!

I hope in the new year to be able to write about even more fascinating people who are “being the change.” There’s a lot of ‘em out there. I’ve only scratched the surface so far. Check out Halogen on cable if you get it. The network has some pretty cool shows.

We’re just two weeks away from the release of Fefe Dobson’s new album, Joy. The track Stutterin’ has already been released to radio. I remembered Fefe from my time in top 40 radio in 2003 — when she first came on the scene with songs like Take Me Away, Bye Bye Boyfriend, Everything, and Don’t Go (Girls and Boys). I wanted to see what Fefe Dobson has been up to and also wanted to ask her about her unique music video for the song Stutterin’. “Hangover 2″ news!

Former President Bill Clinton has possibly filmed a cameo for The Hangover 2! This is exciting! How much more of a heavy hitter can you get? This totally smokes Mike Tyson in the first film. Clinton is also way cooler than Mel Gibson. Let’s face it, Gibson hasn’t been cool for a long time. TMZ reports Clinton has filmed a cameo, but it doesn’t seem very clear what he did on the set of Hangover 2. I certainly hope TMZ is right and Clinton is in the film. I loved the first Hangover despite the fact that I’m a 30+ female and should therefore have my girl card taken away because I loved this more than Eat, Pray, Love.

Side note: I live in downtown Phoenix at the moment and downloaded one of the those “find sex offenders” apps to my iPhone. Guess what came up in the results? None other than Iron Mike himself. I’ll prove it:

Whoa! Gotta keep up with the Lacheys…Jessica Simpson is now engaged.

Shocker! Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns and wife announce the birth of new baby Matteo, then –BAM!– it’s over. They are dissolving their marriage. Oh, say it ain’t so!

Another weekend shocker: Arizona has legalized medical marijuana. This is great for me because every time I blog about weed, pot, kush, or cannabis, I get a ton of page views. So for all your 420 fans who want to “legalize it,” this blog is for you! In fact, let me completely ruin this post by inserting as many Mary Jane references as possible! Arizona suddenly loves marijuana. Or the voters at least support those who need medical marijuana. Imagine how soon those 124 medical marijuana dispensaries will open for business across the state of Arizona. Is Rick James’ Mary Jane playing in your head yet? It should be.

How about Cheech & Chong’s Up In Smoke? Cue the Hank Williams & glue the dingleberries up in your rear window….

See, I had too much stuff to do today to surf the net so I could make fun of Kanye (who I’m a fan of, but he just walks into it so I have to). Besides, the whole point of posting my Links for the Pop Culture-Addicted is that I surf while you work. Let’s be honest. You don’t do any work on Fridays. I know that and you know that. You’re probably more up on pop culture than I am today. You probably went to work and got your sweet little butt on RadarOnline.com so fast, you gave your cubemate whiplash.

And then you probably got so riled worrying about Zsa Zsa Gabor… Well, let me tell you something. That tough little old lady will be just fine. She’s come back from worse — and all since July!

I had to do all this stuff today, like interview Fefe Dobson. My interview with her will be posted soon. I’m excited about her new song, Stutterin’, because she worked on it with Claude Kelly and J.R. Rotem. She’s on Island/Def Jam and ready to drop some great songs. So you may as well grab a taste of Fefe’s new video below. The song will get stuck in your head, so you may as well head to iTunes and just buy it. Her new album, Joy, arrives on November 30.
